--986 --- Mrs. Edna Marie Tilton---- Mrs. Edna Marie Tilton, 81, formerly of 1615 W 21st, died Sunday June 15, at a Topeka nursing home. Mrs. Tilton was a long time volunteer at Colmery-O'Neil VA Hospital. She was born June 24, 1904, in Soldier, the daughter of J. E. "Todd" and Bessie Dove Johnson. She spent most of her life in Topeka. She was a member of the First Christian Church, Beulah Chapter No. 34 of Order of Eastern Star, and YMCA Matrons and was past president of the Marine Corps League auxiliary, all in Topeka, and was historian for the Topeka Gem and Mineral Society. She was married to Willis G. Tilton June 24, 1928, in Soldier. He died April 12, 1981. Survivors include a son, Don E. Tilton, Topeka, a sister Mildred Tilton, Topeka, a Brother Cecil Johnson, Topeka. and three grandchildren. Graveside services will be 9 a.m. Tuesday in Mount Hope Cemetery. Mrs. Tilton will lie in state from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. today at Newcomer-Diffenderfer Funeral Home. The casket will remain closed. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

June 11, 1990--- Don Everett Tilton---- Don Everett Tilton, 60, Topeka, died Sunday, June 10, 1990, in Dallas, Texas. He Suffered a heart attack while attending an antique show. Mr. Tilton and his wife traveled extensively, buying and selling Antiques in Topeka. He worked in his father's grocery business from 1939 until 1972, then owned his own store until 1975. He was a Marine Corps. veteran of the Korean War. He was born May, 22, 1930 in Topeka the son of Willis and Edna Johnson Tilton. He attended Washburn Rural High School and received a Bachelor of Arts degree at Washburn University. He received a Master's degree in business from Michigan State University at East Lansing. Mr. Tilton attended First Congregational Church. He was a member of Orient Lodge No. 51, AF&AM, Topeka Antique Dealer Association and Sigma Phi Epsilon social fraternity. He was married to Freda Taylor Irish, April 21, 1972. in Topeka. She survives. A daughter, Kerry Ann Tilton, died June 18, 1968. Other survivors include a son, Brian Tilton, Golden, Colo. a stepdaughter, Shelly Runion, Topeka; a stepson, Scott Irish, Topeka, and a step-grandchild. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to First Congregational Church.

Topeka Capital 1979--- James E. Johnson, 99, formerly of 3306 E. 21st. died Thursday at a Topeka nursing home. He had been ill about a month. He was born Sept. 12, 1880, at Soldier, the son of Andrew Pinkerton and Sarah Coulter Johnson, and lived in the Topeka community since 1943. Mr. Johnson was a retired farmer. He was a member of First Christian Church, Soldier. He was married to Bessie Dove. She died in November, 1966. Survivors include to daughters, Mrs. Edna M. Tilton, 1615 W. 21st, and Mrs. Mildred L. Tilton. 10334 S.W. K-4; two sons. Cecil P. Johnson 3306 E. 21st, and Otis D. Johnson, Port Townsend, Wash; a sister, Mrs. Dora Holtburg, Salina; five grandsons, and 16 great-grandchildren. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Newcomer-Diffenderfer Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
