(1) 1659, Oct: Of Newbury, Massachusetts. Bought with Eliakim Wardwellland in Hampton,
New Hampshire from Thomas Kimball.
(1) 1659, 18 May: Signed petition for 12 miles square at Pennecooke, NewHampshire. (2)
Signed a petition to the General Court of Massachusetts, requesting agrant at
Pennecooke (later Concord, New Hampshire) and the right to establish atown. On May 18
the petitioners were granted a tract on the banks of the Saco River, onthe
condition they settle 20 families there in 2 years and report in October1660
their resolution to carry on the work. The conditions were not compliedwith
and the grant was declared forfeit.
(2) 1655-1662: With brother-in-law Capt. Benjamin Swett, leased the farmof
Rev. John Woodbridge near "the trayneing green" in Newbury, Massachusetts.
(1) 1660, Sep: Father-in-law deeded property to him, Hampton, NewHampshire.
(1) 1661, Oct: Purchased property in Hampton from Richard Swain.
(1) Of Hampton, New Hampshire. Became one of the influential men of thetown and province.
(1) Moderator.
(1) 1663, 23 Mar: Had cow common rights, Hampton, New Hampshire.
(1) 1667: First time chosen as selectman.
(1) 1669: Chosen to run the south line of the town of Hampton and to layout
the land lying more than 4 miles north of the meeting house.
(1) 1671, 18 Sep: Was a member of the Hampton Church.
(1) 1677, 22 Oct: Signed petition favoring Massachusetts government by 4towns: Dover,
Exeter, Portsmouth, Hampton.
(1) 1679, 7 Jul: Was on Sir William Warren's list named for Councillorsof New Hampshire.

(1) As a strong opponent of the Cranfield-Mason party, he went to Englandtwice
as representative of the petitioners against them.
