Allen O. Tilton
Allen O. Tilton, 83, Springfield, passed away at 11:20 p.m. Thursday, September 5, 2002 in Primrose Place.He was born April 18, 1919 in Picher, Okla. to William Orren and Stella Leah Stuart Tilton.Allen was a 1937 graduate of Carthage, Missouri High School and a 1939 graduate of Adcock Trade School, Portland, Oregon.He had resided in Springfield since 1947 and was associated with Chiles Tractor Company as an Appraiser and Buyer of Heavy Construction Machinery and Equipment.His work took him across the entire United States and many international markets.He became a self-employed broker in 1978, operating in the same business until 1998 when his health forced his retirement.Allen was a very caring and sharing individual not only with his much loved family, but with anybody in need.He was a 50 year life member of United Lodge #5 A.F. and A.M., Abou Ben Adhem Shrine where he served on the Directors Staff and the Royal Order of Jesters.Allen was a member of King's Way United Methodist Church.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Ferrell Tilton and a sister, Thana Jane Tilton.Allen is survived by his wife, Marie Ummel Tilton of the home; three children, Don A. Tilton, Little Rock, Ark., Dale W. (Cindy) Tilton, Leawood, Kan., and Judy Marie (Mike) Brunner, Springfield; seven grandchildren, Dan A. (Lisa) Tilton, Jr., Lacy M. Tilton, Lori E. Tilton, Stephanie L. (Joseph) Reid, Adam L. Tilton, Michael E. Brunner, II, and Matthew T. Brunner; and two greatgrandchildren, Trace Allen Tilton and Evan McKenzie Reid.Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, September 8, 2002 in King's Way United Methodist Church with the Reverend Charles Buck officiating.Burial will be at 9 a.m. Monday in Hazelwood Cemetery.No visitation is scheduled, however friends may call after noon Sunday in the funeral home.The family requests that memorials be made to Shriners Childrens Hospital, c/o Abou Ben Adhem Shrine, 601 E. St. Louis St., Springfield, MO 65806, or the Viking Endowment Fund, c/o Springfield Public Schools Foundation, 940 N. Jefferson, Springfield, MO 65802.
