Nathan Tilton, (1755-1805), enlisted as a private and served in theBurgoyne campaign. He wa s born in East Kingston; died in London, N. H.
[p.156] William Hayes responded to the first call for troops fromSanbornton and subsequentl y reƫnlisted to take the place of his sonWilliam. He died in service at Ticonderoga.

Notes from Keven Tilton
Nathan established himself as a farmer and miller at Loudon , arriving atage 18
and living there until his death .
Nathan also served in the Revolution as a Pvt. He was listed in Capt.Henry Elkin's Co. , ret urned to Pierce's Island Nov. 5 , 1775 (DAR PI680) . This was in defence of Piscataqua Harbo r . Sept. 1 , 1775 , the4th provincial congress voted to raise 4 regiments of minutemen fo r 4months to defend against any seaward attack .They were stationed inPortsmouth , New Catl e , Kittery and the vicinity . (Rolls of theSoldiers in the Rev. War p223&229-230).
Nathan also was in Porter Kimball's Co. , Stephen Evan's regt. from Sept.9 -Nov. 30 , 177 7 . He recieved L12.6 plus 4.13.3 travel (Rolls...p290). Don Lampson told me of a report b y Charles Snell dated Feb. 1, 1951 , wherein Snell has 2 New Hampshire militia brigades join EbenezerL earned Oct. 7 , 1777 , the day of the 2nd battle . One was Col. Evan's. That day Burgoyne at tempted a reconnaissance in force and threatenedGates' left . Gates ordered Daniel Morgan an d Henry Dearborn to the leftin an attempt to outflank him. Learned was to be in reserve . Be nedictArnlod would take charge and lead Learned's men against the Brunswicktroops , forcin g them back . Arnold , who was everywhere that day ,would gallop between the opposing line s under fire back to the NewHampshire men and lead them against the Breyman redoubt , where he(Arnold) was wounded . (Richard Ketchum-Saratoga).
    Nathan would be among troops that would help surround Burgoyne ,servingunder John Stark , f orcing his surrender(DAR PI 680) . According toRichard Ketchum in "Saratoga" , Stark seale d off the northern escaperoute with over 1000 New Hampshire militia . He led them across theHudson nea r the mouth of Batten Kill and erected a battery on the westside .
He also had service under Col. Nicholas Gilman that appears to be priorto Saratoga , but thi s is unclear . This was also in Kimball's Co.Hereceived 6.13.3 wages & travel 'per receipt S ept. 12 , 1777'(Rolls....p283). Gilman was also at Saratoga commanding a 'detachment'(Snell )There is also a DAR (DAR ID#163231) report of service in Capt. Morrill'sLoudon Co. in th e Burgoyne campaign .
The 1790 Census has Nathan in Loudon , Rockingham Co. Free white males inhis househlod ove r 16 (including head) : 2 ' FWM under 16 : 2; freewhite females : 3
