Gr.-granddaughter of Nathaniel Emerson and Sarah Tilton, his wife.
Nathaniel Emerson, (1741-1824), arrived with his troops at Bennington inthe midst of the con flict. The reinforcements were soon in action, andthe battle lasted until night when the ene my retreated under cover ofdarkness. He served in Rhode Island, 1778, when the army was coöp eratingwith the French fleet to expel the British from that province. He was amember of th e Committee of Safety and of the convention that framed theState constitution.

Nehemiah Knowlton (1745-1843), was corporal in Capt. Robert Dodge'scompany, Col. Jonathan Ti tcomb's regiment, for service in Rhode Island,1777. He enlisted from Ipswich, 1778, and wa s sergeant in the regimentof Guards serving at Cambridge under Col. Jacob Gerrish.
